Routes

If you are a nature lover and wish to combine your vacation with sports activities, Pelion is a great place for hiking. You can consult trail maps or follow the special hiking signs placed by the local Association (The Friends of the Kalderimi of South Pelion). More information can be found on the Association's blog   and their  facebook page. Further options include individual or group hikes accompanied by a guide from nature exprerience.

Daily car trips are another fast way to get to know as many places as possible. We suggest the following routes starting from our apartments.

1. Milina – Marathias – Alogoporos – Palaio Trikeri (via water taxi) – Trikeri – Tzasteni – Milina

A route that will take you to the most hidden and unique side of Pelion, to the southernmost tip of the mountain. The first stop is at the bay of Marathias, ideal for cool dips in the calm waters, accompanied by tsipouro and appetizers at the family-style taverns by the sea. From there you go to the pier of Alogoporos to visit the island of Trikeri, home of the picturesque monastery of Panagia, and back again to the village of Trikeri, a settlement with an islandic character. Upon your return, make a stop at Tzasteni and enjoy the view from above!

2. Milina – Lafkos – Promyri – Mourtias – Katigiorgis – Platanias – Mikro – Milina

This route may well be the heart of South Pelion. In just a few minutes you are in Lafkos for a morning Greek coffee in one of the oldest cafes in Greece (Forlida Cafe) and freshly-baked bread from the traditional wood-fired oven of the village (Traditional Bakery Giannis Drositis). Experience the aroma of tradition at the village of Promyri, and from there the beach of Mourtias, where nature engulfs all senses. In the following stops, you will find several beaches for moments of relaxation with numerous delicious options of the freshest ingredients that nature has to offer.

3. Milina – Argalasti – Vizitsa – Pinakates – Milies – Milina

Driving on the mountain ridge you will be enchanted by the dense plane trees that embrace the western side of the road, and the traditional Pelion architecture in its most majestic state. Vizitsa demonstrates this great architecture as a structured environment where modernity is not present. In Milies, you can learn about the history and local folklore while enjoying dessert in a uniquely aesthetic cafe.

Milies is the final destination of The Little Train of Pelion which now operates for visitors, making it possible to experience Pelion via the 19 th century train tracks!
